Our Client, a leading producer of farmhouse cheddar, is seeking two Shift Whey Plant Operators to operate and monitor their Whey Plant and Butter Room within the Dairy. Working as part of a team of 8 covering the operation of the Whey Plant & Butter Room on a shift basis you’ll be responsible for inputting data into the computer ensuring accurate recording; cleaning in place (CIP) of plant and equipment; operating and monitoring pasteurisers, ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis plants and butter makers; taking and analyzing liquid samples from plant; unloading and loading lorries and performing intake, dispatch tests. To successfully undertake these roles candidates will need to be physically fit, willing to learn, flexible on working hours and shift patterns as and when required and possess basic numeracy, literacy & PC skills (Word & Excel). Previous manufacturing and shift working experience is preferred however full job training will be given. Given the rural location (5 miles south of Shepton Mallet towards Castle Cary) candidates will need to have their own transport. Free car parking is available. With regard to weekly working hours, a 3-shift pattern is in operation as follows: WEEK 1: EARLIES – 04.30 to 14.15, Monday to Friday; WEEK 2: LATES – 14.00 to 22.30 or finish with overtime hours, Monday to Friday; WEEK 3: DAYS – 05.30 to 14.15 or 07.00 to 15.30, Monday to Friday. These shift working roles will require flexibility on working hours as and when required as part of the team of 8 covering the Whey Plant and Butter Room. Typically, the LATE shifts can involve overtime working (after the first 40 hours each week) because they are to finish, and finish time is vat dependent. With regard to weekly wages for this assignment, the basic hourly pay rate is £8.87 for the first 40 hours per week, then an overtime rate will apply at time and a half for those hours worked over 40 each week (£13.31 per hour). Plus, a weekly shift allowance of £75.10 to compensate for the alternating shift arrangement. These are temporary assignments to start as soon as possible but, for the right candidates, they also have the potential to go temporary to permanent after 12 weeks of temporary service.
