Our Client is a leading farmhouse cheese maker located in the village of Ditcheat, Somerset. From September 2022 they are seeking an additional Dairy Production Operative to join their team covering split day shifts (alternating each week between Early & Late shifts 05.45-14.15 & 13.45-22.15). Working within a high hygiene / food production / dairy environment the purpose of the role will be to operate and monitor production equipment as per the Company’s standard operating procedures to produce quality farmhouse cheddar meeting all internal and external specifications & standards. Full Health & Safety and Job training will be provided together with any P.P.E. & high hygiene clothing the assignment may require. Under guidance from the Shift Team Leading Technical Operative duties & responsibilities will include: undertaking tasks in the production areas such as sealing product & checking for any quality issues, taking & analyzing samples, monitoring & recording results as required; using safe working practices & relevant documentation to carry out tasks relevant to the area such as loading & unloading tankers &/or lorries (using FLT) and monitor the product by taking & sampling product and packaging; using business systems to accurately manage & record the movement of all forms of stock including finished & semi-finished goods, packaging & ingredients; closely monitoring production quality & adjusting equipment settings to meet specifications/quality standards; operating & monitoring food safety equipment and reporting any exceptions; undertaking cleaning tasks relevant to the area and Cleaning in Place (CIP) of plant, silos & tankers, and other food processing equipment. The Client would like to recruit for this post, initially through the Agency, using a 12-week temporary to permanent trial period after which a review will be conducted. The Temporary Worker being sought will ideally have previous experience of working in food production / manufacturing and understand continuous improvement practices. You will need to be able to work in a role / an environment that has physical demands (for example within the dairy the blocks of cheese being produced can weigh between 15 to 20kg) and to undertake a variety of manual handling tasks. To successfully undertake this role a candidate will need good numeracy & literacy (minimum GCSE level 4 in Maths & English), good computer skills and knowledge of food hygiene (ideally Level 2 Qualified in Food Hygiene). A personable, dependable & hardworking team player is being sought to join this busy, friendly, and successful dairy. The successful candidate will have good verbal & written communication, a knowledge & understanding of operational processes & procedures and be methodical & thorough (possessing good attention to detail). Given the rural location (5 miles south of Shepton Mallet towards Castle Cary) candidates will need to have their own transport. Free car parking is available. The weekly working days & hours & hourly pay rates for this assignment are as follows: this role involves covering split day shifts within the dairy, alternating each week between Earlies & Lates. The Early Shift is 05.45 to 14.15 daily, Monday to Friday (a 40-hour core working week). The Late Shift is 13.45 to 22.15 daily, Monday to Friday (a 40-hour core working week). The hourly pay rate for the first 40 hours each week is £11.69 with overtime hours at £16.31 after 40 hours. This is a full-time temporary assignment and (for the right candidate) has the potential to transfer “temp to perm” after 12 weeks of successful temporary service to a permanent position direct with the Client. Following a successful “temp to perm” 12-week trial period, the successful candidate can expect a permanent position direct with the Client with potential for further salary progression over time as you learn new skills and take on more responsibilities & tasks. For example, upon going permanent direct with the Client you can expect the £11.69 hourly pay rate to increase to £12.48 per hour and the overtime rate to increase to £17.42 per hour.
